After completing successful years with various race teams, Bobby Labonte, the younger brother of veteran driver and previous Winston Cup Champion Terry Labonte, joined Joe Gibbs Racing to continue his quest for his own championship. He achieved that goal in 2000 driving the #18 Interstate Battery Pontiac Grand Prix.

Glen in 1999, but ffinished 27th. Prior to becoming Bobby Labonte's road race car, this car was driven by Dale Jarrett and is onee of the rare road race Winston Cup cars driven by two Winston Cup Champions. Purchased from Joe Gibbs Racing in 2000, this car, named Bambi after an unfortunate incident with a deet at Watkins Glen, is chassis #7 originally built in February, 1992. As is common with road race chassis, not many are built and they are usually updated with new bodywork and suspension as necessary. This car was wrecked at Watkins Glen in 1999, but finished 27th.
